#3 : It's another Tequila Sunrise
Arizona in a glass came to life over 80 years ago at his iconic place near Phoenix
...the Tequila Sunrise. The color of the Arizona landscape. The cocktail that washes away the taste of the night. The eighty year old classic that; was put on ice by Ben & Jerry's, gave the 'Eagles' wings and, according to Keith Richards, baptized the Stones' 1972 tour ‘the Cocaine and Tequila Sunrise tour’. Legend has it that Gene Sulit, bartender at the The Wright Bar at the Biltmore was the first to mix the drink when an overheated guest asked for a cold glass of “whatever”, as long as it had tequila in it. The cocktail Sulit made was so popular that it quickly appeared on the menu. A slow advance through the American West followed until Mick Jagger & Co. discovered it during their tour and called it their breakfast, lunch and dinner. From then on, things took off and the 'TS' became a permanent fixture on the cocktail menu of many (sports) bars and all-inclusive resorts, usually deviating a little from the original recipe which did not include OJ:
- Ice
- Lime juice
- Blue Agave Tequila
- Club Soda
- (LeJay) crème de cassis
- Lemon slice
